GRIPEN FOR INDIA
A PARTNERSHIP FOR INDEPENDENCE
Accompanied by a unique industrial co-operation package and a powerful network of global business partners, Saab is committed to providing an unrivalled technological and knowledge exchange, tailored to support India’s independence.
With the backing of the Swedish government and in close co-operation with Indian industry, Saab will develop industrial co-operation packages tailored to meet India’s strategic priorities and create industrial development and true economic growth. As a Gripen customer nation, India will be part of a unique industrial partnership which offers access to all levels of aircraft technology. This means that Gripen will not only support the development of a self-sufficient and independent air force, but also be a key component in the development of an independent India.
Offset
The proposal meets all offset requirements and is tailor-made to support India’s ambition of being an independent global player within the defence technology market. By investing in projects with real strategic and commercial potential, Saab’s industrial
co-operation programme will accelerate the creation of sustainable long-term growth and development of the national economy. Saab has an avid and persistent interest in new project ideas and co-operation opportunities in both the commercial and defence markets.
Transfer of Technology
The formation of long-term and direct partnerships between Saab and local industries is a key factor in delivering successful technology transfer. Our transfer of technology (ToT) programme will guarantee India full access to all levels of Saab’s aircraft technology through the transfer of unique and highly advanced competencies supporting the development of a self-reliant and world-leading aircraft industry.
A first step in this direction is the collaboration between Mahindra Satyam and Saab, which was announced 3 November 2009. The two companies have already initiated the setup of a centre of excellence for netcentric warfare that will be a development centre for mission-critical applications and C4I solutions for global opportunities, accessible to either of the partners. One of the first jointly addressed activities under this initiative is the battlefield management system (BMS) proposed for the Indian Army.

At a well-attended press conference in Bangalore on February 8th, 2011, Saab CEO Håkan Bushke announced the company's plan to establish a Research & Development Centre in India. Håkan Jevrell, Vice Minister of Defence and Inderjit Sial, Country Head Saab India, also addressed the conference.
